The first Khmer architecture pagoda in Saigon


Chantarangsay pagoda was built in 1946, with the architecture of Khmer culture in the Southwest Vietnam.



Chantarangsay pagoda located on the bank of Nhieu Loc - Thi Nghe canal (District 3, Ho Chi Minh City) was built more than 70 years ago. It is also known as Candaransi (meaning Moonlight) and is the first Khmer temple in Saigon. The temple has an area of ​​4,500 m2, since the operation has undergone seven restoration. In the middle of the courtyard is a small lake, the tower of the Buddha, the house ... with the characteristic yellow of Khmer pagoda.



This is the monastic practice of the Nam Tong school, where cultural activities of the majority of Khmer Southern people in Saigon.



The hall consists of two floors, with four gates on both sides of the front and behind, facing east.



At the top of the hall are three magnificent towers, which can be seen from afar, as an architectural highlight of the temple.



The entrance to the main hall contains Buddha Sakyamuni's carvings with various carved sculptures.




Featuring the characteristics of Theravada Buddhism, the shrine is the only shrine dedicated to Shakyamuni, not to the Bodhisattvas and to the gods. Around the four corners of the roof, there are large paintings that tell the story of the Buddhist process.



On the corners, walls, roofs, pillars of the pagoda decorated Garuda god, Naga Snake, statue No, Buddha Shakyamuni.



During the year, the pagoda performs major Buddhist traditions of the Khmer such as Chol Chnam Thmay, Buddha's Birthday, Ok Om Bok ... Chantarangsay pagoda is also home to many Khmer monks coming to visit the city or to study.
