The most ancient pagoda of Saigon admired by Western travelers
Giac Lam pagoda built in 1744, is considered one of the oldest surviving temples in Saigon.
Phuoc Lam or Phuoc Lam Pagoda also has other names such as Cam Son, Son Can or Cam Self, was built by Ly Thuy Long in 1744. This is the family of the Lam Lan in South Vietnam.

Located on Lac Long Quan Street, Tan Binh District, Giac Lam Pagoda was built from the money donated by layman Ly Thuy Long to the Nguyen Phuc Khoat princess.

The pagoda has a Tam architecture consisting of 3 rows of horizontal houses connected to each other: the main hall, the lecture hall and the cloister. Over 274 years, the temple has a total of 11 abbots.
The main power is built in the traditional folk style of two-room, four main pillars or four pillars. The interior is quite wide and deep. Inside the pagoda there are 98 supporting columns, 113 ancient statues are Quan The Am, Thap Bat La Han, Thap Dien Diem Vuong, Bo De Lat Ma, and Long Vuong.
Most of the statues are made of wood, with only seven bronze statues. The main columns in the power are carved parallel sentences, sophisticated with gold card.
In the Gia Dinh book, the monk Trinh Hoai Duc described the pagoda at that time: "The temple is located on Cam Son mound, ... trees as high as forest flowers! "
Up to now, the pagoda has undergone 3 repairs. Master To Tong - Vien Quang built the first temple in 1798 -1804. From 1906 to 1909, Hong Hung monk with the help of the Nhu Phong monk, restored the temple a second time. In early 1999, the temple completed the third restoration. The restoration was recorded in the double happiness, now hang in the main hall.
At the entrance to the pagoda, there is a 7-story Hexagonal Stupa. The highest shrine of the relics of the Buddha. The temple was built in 1970. In the courtyard is a statue of Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara under the shade of bodhi tree by the Venerable Narada from Sri Lanka (Sri Lanka) to plant in 1953.
In 1988, Giac Lam pagoda was recognized as a national cultural vestige. Although not located in the center, the temple is still an attraction for foreign visitors to Saigon.
