Visit some markets which open only once a year in Vietnam


There are no crowded scenes, no pay period, sellers and buyers in the market are coming to the sewing, looking forward to a year of luck, fortune. Unlike many other markets, the following markets only open once a year.

1. Khau Vai market market

Nearly the end of the third lunar month, in the Ha Giang rocky plateau, young girls, boys, old people, young people, tourists everywhere come to Khau Vai and make it an unique market in Vietnam.

The market only opens once a year on March 27th lunar calendar, located around 200 km from Ha Giang city. This market has long, is the traditional market of the Mong people. Initially, this is for all people with unfinished love, for some reason that does not come together.

They came, exchanged the love after one night, and in the morning when the market was melting, the love melted, they returned to live with the husband, the wife, without jealousy or reproach. Today, the market is a place for people to gather, and also exchange goods.



2. Vieng market, Nam Dinh

It only opens once a year, this is a long-time market, attracting thousands of tourists every year to come to "buy sewing, selling risk." Night market on the 7th, the 8th day of the lunar calendar, in Nam Truc and Vu Ban districts.

Both sellers and buyers on the market do not put much emphasis on buying, selling interest, they go to the market for sewing, hoping to move to a prosperous, windy, prosperous year. In the past, Vieng market only sold agricultural products, especially famous for knives, axes, plows ... but today people bring more products to make the market more exciting.



3. Ancient market, Hanoi

The only meeting once a year, from 23rd to 30th of December (Lunar New Year), the market opens in the 5 ancient streets of Hang Ma, Hang Luoc ... mainly selling antique imitation jewelry, bronze dating from dozens to several hundred years. Called the market, but only about a dozen small booths, no sign.

Customers come here mainly to buy decorative items for the house, also to watch, go out on the days adjacent to Tet. This is also the end of the year for those who love antiques.

The most popular products are the altarpieces, bronze Buddha statues or bronze altars, bronze vases, etc. Besides, there are porcelain wares. However, there are some fake products, so only the experienced people can distinct and know the product value.


4. Yinyang Market, Bac Ninh

The market took place only on the 4th night of the fifth day of the Lunar New Year in village Xuan Ổ, village of Vo Cuong, Bac Ninh city. Upon local people, this is the rare opportunity for the dead and the living meet.

The market begins at dark, on a vacant lot, next to a sacred shrine. This is a market where there are no tents, many marketers usually bring a chicken to scapegoat. The sellers & buyers do not bargain, only whisper. People think, going to the market is a chance to do good to the dead. This is a form of cultural activities bearing the typical folk beliefs of Kinh Bac.




5. Thieu Market, Thanh Hoa

Thieu Market Fair is held in Thieu Xa village, Cau Loc commune, Hau Loc in the morning of December 26 (Lunar New Year). Most of the products sold in the market are tfrom the countryside such as sticky rice, bee leaves, vegetables and fruits. The buyers do not bargain, they just go Thieu market to pray for lucky.

Previously, Thieu Market was located right next to the river for convenient waterway transportation. At present, the village is unified in the temple grounds. Visitors can explore the culture and also the ancient temple.




6. Bich La Market, Quang Tri

The market has existed for hundreds of years, as a traditional culture of people in Trieu Phong district. This night market opens in the evening of the 2nd da to early morning of the 3rd day of the Lunar New Year, the seller or the buyer came here to pray for good luck.

The things sold in the market are only local produts such as betel nut, salt, tea, sugar cane ..., it is for wishing for a lucky year.




7. Cho Go - Truong Uc, Binh Dinh

People come to Go market to buy local products on the beginning of spring.

Unlike other markets, the Gò market meets on the first day of Lunar New Year, held as a festival, a unique cultural exchanges in Binh Dinh.

Commodities brought to the market are just fish, vegetables or fruits in the garden and it is just an excuse for marketers to meet, bless each other a good new year.
