Why Quang Binh is the Kingdom of caves?


Apart from Son Doong, Thien Duong ... Quang Binh has many spectacular caves, an interesting choice to explore in the summer.


"Cave Kingdom" is the name used to refer to Phong Nha in Quang Binh province around the beginning of 2010. In 2014, it gradually became more popular and was mentioned more when the images of Son Doong Cave across famous newspapers such as National Geographic, CNN, Huffington Post, Bussiness Insider ...


So far, many world-famous newspapers, travel websites such as Channel News Asia, Culture Trip and Bright Side ... have used this method to call Phong Nha and Quang Binh.



There are currently no official statistics on the total number of caves in Quang Binh, but this is said to be the most concentrated cave area in the country.


According to Le Thanh Tinh - Director of Phong Nha Ke Bang National Park, there are more than 350 caves discovered in the past 25 years. In particular, more than 30 caves are put into tourism exploitation. In addition to Son Doong, some other famous names also have En cave, Pygmy cave, third largest, fourth world.


About 70 km from Phong Nha, Tu Lan is also a system of more than 20 caves which are gradually being discovered with unique stalactites and unique natural tectonics.

SON CAVE


Dating back to 3 million years old, Son Doong was recognized as the largest cave in the world in 2009. With a length of nearly 9 km, at some locations the ceiling height of up to 200 m, 160 m wide, stunned cave overwhelming those who step into exploration.

The cave has two natural skylights and is also the only place where sunlight shines on. This explains the strong development of a primeval forest with high tropical species such as coconut, palm ...





Cave owns a large underground river system, formed from the two rivers Khe Ry and Rao Thuong. The giant size of the cave helps clouds form in the cave from underground rivers. These clouds grew, covering the largest caverns of the cave, creating a spectacular, spectacular scene for visitors to admire.

The final challenge of Son Doong expedition is to conquer the 90-meter-high limestone wall, also known as "Vietnam Wall".

HANG EN


The third largest in the world, Hang En is the gateway for tourists to explore Son Doong faster. The cave stretches over 2 km through the giant limestone block right in the core zone of Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park. There are three entrances to Hang En, of which the largest and most famous cave is 120 m high and 140 m wide.

The primitive, dense primeval forests surrounding Hang En create a magnificent scenery that must be witnessed by your own eyes. In some other areas of Hang En, the cave arch is up to 100 m high and over 180 m wide, so big that the strong light from the professional headlights cannot reach the cave wall.





HANG PYGMY

This is the 4th largest cave in the world, announced by the Royal Cave Association of the UK. The cave is located deep in Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park, in Bo Trach district. The entrance is high and about 100 m wide, 845 m long. During the day, light can penetrate the cave, creating conditions for ferns to grow green. The exit of the cave is also the place to camp on the second night, during the three-day and two-night exploration journey.



HANG VA - DRAINING WATER


Hang Va was first discovered in 2012, connected to Nuoc Nui Cave, a wet cave over 2 km long. The shape of stalactites is one of Hang Va's most special things. No one is sure how these tower cones have formed before. Hang Va also owns blind white fish and blind freshwater freshwater prawns, perfectly adapted to live in a light-free environment. Many small bats also nest in this cave.

CAVE OF THIEN DUONG


Located at a height of 360 m above sea level, Thien Duong cave has a temperature difference from 9 to 10 degrees Celsius. The small entrance is hidden behind the cliffs and forest canopy. The cave is divided into many large compartments, the widest place is more than 200 m high and over 100 m high.



The stalactites in the cave have images like cultural symbols of regions: Buddha Ba, Tien Ong, houses on stilts and terraced fields like the hills and mountains of the Northwest. The emulsion system of Thien Duong Cave is rich and colorful, still being created by droplets from the ceiling.

A wooden bridge with a width of 3.5 m and a length of over 1,000 m is built to serve visitors. This road currently holds the national record as the "longest wooden path". With adventurous guests can trekking 7 km in the cave, rowing through the 60-100 m underground stream, wade through cool streams to reach the Sun and watch the faint rays of sunshine through.

CAVE SYSTEM


A total of 20 caves have been discovered in this area with a length of 20 km. Among them, 10 caves have been put into tourism.


While Secret Cave is a small cave covered by stalactites, Hang is like a magnificent palace with rare coral jelly blocks. Here are some highlights in this system:

TU LAN CAVE


Tu Lan Cave was discovered in 2010, with two dry and wet entrances, 2.2 km long. The favorite point of conquering this cave is that visitors can cross the beautiful valleys, which many film crews have chosen as the context.


Tu Lan Cave is often combined to conquer the other caves in the system including the rat cave, Hung Ton, Ken, Kim ...

In which Ken cave is composed of a wet cave and a dry cave next to it, 3.7 km long and is the longest cave of Tu Lan system.

HANG TIEN


Hang Tien is the largest dry cave of Tu Lan system, first discovered in 1994. Hang Tien is 2.5 km long, with the exit is primitive forest. After that, Hang Tien 2 was discovered and mapped in 2015 and 2016 by British cave experts.



During the summer, Hang Tien is a dry cave but in the rainy season, a large river appears in the cave. The underground water from Tu Lan cave must flow from deep within the earth for more than 2 km to reach Hang Tien and the natural jade lake in the cave.


Hang Tien contains countless unique stalactites, large cave corridors, layered limestone floors carved into veins throughout the stone walls, and an entire population of bats living on high ceiling of the cave.
