The pagodas which are more than 200 years old in Ho Chi Minh City

Giac Lam Pagoda, Thien Hau Pagoda... are old and famous pagodas in Saigon.

Giac Lam pagoda (Lac Long Quan, Tan Binh district) 

 

It is also called Cam Son Tu, Son Can Tu or Cam Dam Tu, which is the family of the Te Trung Thien in the South.

Built in 1744, Giac Lam is the oldest temple in Ho Chi Minh City. The structure is Tam script with 3 horizontally connected houses including the main hall, lecture hall and clams.

In front of the pagoda there is a hexagonal Stupa. The pagoda has a Bodhi tree brought from Sri Lanka to Sri Lanka and planted in 1953.

Giac Vien Pagoda (Lac Long Quan, Tan Binh District) 

 

It is also called Ho Dat Pagoda. The structure is similar to Giac Lam Pagoda.

The temple has 153 statues, most of wood. Most statues are considered to be old in the South.

Thien Hau Pagoda (Nguyen Trai, District 5) 

 

It is also called Cho Lon Pagoda, built around 1760. It is considered one of the oldest pagoda in the United States in Ho Chi Minh City.

The pagoda features bold Chinese architecture with four houses linked together. The largest festival of the temple is the ceremony of Thien Hau (March 23 lunar calendar) every year. Photo: Darius.

Phung Son Pagoda (3/2, District 11) or Go pagoda

 

It was founded by Lieu Thong meditation teacher in the early 19th century. Legend has it that the name of the temple is attached to the bird Phung to be planted in the corn.

The pagoda has 40 statues painted with gold leaf, including some statues like Di Tam Tam Ton, Ngu Hien.

Sung Duc Pagoda (Truong Tho, Thu Duc District)

 

The pagoda was built in 1806. The project was built with the word tam, the type of wooden pillars, the roof tile yin Yang.
