The palace that King Bao Dai offered to his wife Phi Anh in Dalat
Located on Quang Trung Street, it is the only Spanish architectural stone building in Dalat.
The villa is built in the Basque architecture (Spain) on the land thousands of square meters. The building is based on the idea of a French officer, with two floors, a basement, two blocks. In 1940, during a vacation here, King Bao Dai bought the building from the official to donate to Phi Phi. Since then, stone villas are also called "Phi Anh villas".
Located at 1A and 1B Quang Trung, Ward 9, this villa architecture is a harmonious combination of two houses connected by a semicircle corridor.
During this time, Phi Anh and King Bao Dai have two common children. Nguyen Phuc Minh (born in 1950) and son Nguyen Phuc Bao An (born in 1951).
If the sky is gray ash during rainy or foggy days, the mansion blends in space. At sunrise, the clear blue sky of the jade, the brownish gray of the mansion became prominent, as the point of adding a unique detail to the scenery of the plateau.
The house has many small windows around the wall with all sizes and shapes square, round, rectangular, arch, arch ... Walls are built 60-80 cm thick. The main material used to build the villa is granite so the main color of the building also bears this color.
Travelers will easily recognize the difference of Phi Anh villas with old buildings in Da Lat. While most of the villas scattered throughout Dalat have French architecture, this building is the only surviving Spanish architecture.
After 1975, the villa became a home for nearly a dozen households and then abandoned a long time later. In 2007, a company took over the mansion and carried out repairs.
When restored, people found many sculptures carved elaborately decorated walls. Especially, the relief of the Cham girl is about 1.5m high, the head of the hat is 3 Cham towers, the legs are wrapped in 3 golden rings, intact in the vault and near the main door. This is considered the mystery of the Phi Anh villas on the mix of decorative detail with Asian cultural characteristics in a house carrying Western architecture.
Over time, the crocus flowers bloom under the bold windows of Spanish architecture, making the space becomes romantic.
After nearly a century of existence, no one has ever known about the designer of this mansion as well as its original owner. In recent years, Phi Anh villas have attracted many domestic and foreign tourists, especially those who love architecture. In this stone villa also reserved space depict Phi Anh and former Empress Bao Dai youth.
The villa is located near Dalat train station so you can combine the exploration of 2 ancient works in one session. Villas open all day. This place is being rented for restaurant business, visitors can explore outside without charge.
